A question about Bokmo?

Answers to the questions that come up most often, and a form for everything else.

Frequently asked questions

When will Bokmo be available?

Bokmo is getting ready for the App Store. The release will be announced right here, with the download link for Mac, iPhone and iPad.

Which devices does Bokmo run on?

On Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later, and on iPhone and iPad with iOS and iPadOS 17 or later. The assistant features also require macOS 26 or iOS 26 and a device compatible with Apple Intelligence.

Where is my writing saved?

In a folder, as Markdown (.md) files that any software can open. On Mac, it is the app’s Bokmo folder, or any other folder you choose in the settings. On iPhone and iPad, the library shows up in the Files app.

Entries, events and settings are stored in hidden files, next to your writing.

How do I find my writing on all my devices?

With iCloud Drive: the library syncs between your Mac, your iPhone and your iPad with your own iCloud account. If two versions of the same sheet cross paths, Bokmo shows them side by side and lets you choose.

Can I bring in a manuscript written in another app?

Yes. Bokmo imports Scrivener (with its binder), Ulysses, Word, RTF, ODT, HTML, Final Draft, Fountain, PDF and TextBundle, as well as whole folders of Markdown or text files.

Do the dictionary and the syllable counter work in English?

Rhymes, synonyms and the syllable counter work on French only, and appear when the app is set to French. The style check works in every language, apart from crutch words, whose list is French. In every language, the dictionary looks up definitions in Apple’s dictionary. Bokmo’s interface is available in English, French, Spanish, German and Italian.

Do I need an internet connection?

Only for iCloud sync, and for the French language tools: the first time the app opens in French, Bokmo downloads its word lists (rhymes, syllables, synonyms), about 30 MB, from their authors, and the dictionary’s Wiktionnaire tab loads its pages online. Everything else works offline: writing, the bible, the timeline, the dictionary and the assistant.

Does Bokmo collect my data?

No: no account, no ads, no analytics. Your writing stays on your devices and in your iCloud. The details are in the privacy policy.
